Comments:"It was our pleasure to experience these ballplayers. That's a credit to both Brian and Mike that considers citizenship responsibility maturity and team chemistry a vital part of the objective. The parents of these athletes should be commended for molding such great young men. Pleasurable humorous fun-loving caring and full of class both on and off the field. They are so refreshing. Comments:"It was one heck of a rock and roll summer!! Thanks to our generous sponsors Tony and Ruby Subia the countless hours of coaching by Brian Dodd and Mike Burrola not to mention Patti Dodd’s abilities to organize this summer’s activities/events and of course Mary Burrola’s willingness to follow the team or be without her husband while he’s out coaching our boys made it to the Connie Mack World Series. What a thrill! Whether you just joined the team this year or you've been on board for a while you’ve got to admit this was some of the best baseball your boys ever had the privilege of playing. The camaraderie and the coaching were second to none. Our son has thrived under the guidance of Brian and Mike for the past 3 years. They've taken him to another level and he's played to the best of his ability when he's been on this team! Thanks for the memories! "

Comments:"Tony -

I just discovered your website and thought to say something about your team.

I was an official at the western regional tournament - I saw every minute of every game including pregame and the closing hours of each day. I thought then and think now that your team exhibited a special quality difficult to describe and certainly difficult to create but one which those of us who care about such things cannot miss.

For me this quality was most evidenced on the baseball side by the fact that I couldn't really identify the ""core"" ballplayers. Said another way there was no particular 'hole' in the lineup or defense.

From the chemistry side the banter between players was easy and constant; but more telling the same banter (and the associated comfort) was clear between player and COACH. Not common and a real testament to the coaching staff as well as I assume you at the top. I have the feeling that families not just players were chosen for this team. Sorry if I presume - I know something about how these things go and can't help but project my own history into your situation.

I talked at some length to AZ-Subia parents at the St Mary's venue because I found your team so unusual and comfortable. I also sought out the coaching staff and said something similar to the above to them.

After some years of successful coaching here in the SF Bay Area I have done a little horizontal retirement and now exclusively train athletes. The model your team often tempts me back...

Thanks for some good baseball thanks for a good model thanks for a positive contribution to a difficult world.

Doug Winter "

Comments:"I just wanted to say what an honor it has been to be a part of the Subia Baseball “family” for all these years. How lucky Nolan was back in 1998 when we moved to sunny Arizona from Wisconsin to become fast friends with Brian Jr. Brian just happened to have a “baseball Dad” who was always giving time to the boys in some way. Whether it was just throwing some BP or helping out with the Altadena MS baseball team! Then came the 8th grade summer “Red-Wings” team and what would eventually evolve into the resurrection of the “Arizona Subia Baseball Team”! Many faces came and went on those early teams. What started as a neighborhood team started to become better and better. Changes were made to improve the team. Coach Dodd and Burrola started to think “why don’t we do this right!” and pursued good quality ball players as well as good quality young men. All of a sudden the Subia baseball team was a pretty darn good team! Subia won some tournaments and usually won the local and state Babe Ruth title but could never quite get over that California hump! Then came the magical summer of 2002 and the USA Baseball Junior Olympics Western Championship! The little team from Arizona that came from 20th seed to scrap and fight to the Gold Medal! Coming out #1 out of 72 teams! The 2003 season was very successful for the team but Subia fell flat in the State Connie Mack championship. A sad and disappointing end to what had started as a promising season. Now the stage was set for the 2004 season and what would be the final run for Subia Baseball. During the off season and the high school season Coaches Dodd and Burrola were hard at work looking for “arms”. It usually always boils down to the team with the best “arms”. They knew they had a great core team but needed to add some additional good quality pitching if they wanted to go out on top! Well they worked hard and were successful in picking up some top-notch pitching. Young men who really WANTED to play for Subia Baseball! The 2004 Arizona Subia baseball team was born! The 2004 season was a great experience that seemed to be over way too soon. Where had the summer gone? The season started and then POOF it was over! I think I only missed 3 or 4 games this season. I was lucky to be there to experience a great year for not only my son but great years from ALL the players. Veterans and newcomers alike! If it wasn’t one of the pitchers throwing another shutout it was a hitter going for the cycle or having multiple home run games! It was also the routine “flashy” plays of the infield and also the diving catches of the outfielders. It was the tournament victories in Palm Springs Peoria and Long Beach. It was winning of the Connie Mack Arizona Championship and having the support of one of our past players who had his baseball career cut short. It was the adventure into Northern California and CONVINCINGLY defeating all of those big bad California teams! It was the bittersweet week in Farmington that ended the magic of the season. I don’t want this season to ever end! Let’s all keep it alive as long as possible right here on this website! I am so grateful to Tony and Ruby Subia for all the support of the team. The great coaching and lifetime friendship of Brian Dodd and Mike Burrola who worked so hard to put (and keep) together this great team! Patty Dodd for her unending support and organizational skills with last minute travel and fund raising! Ginger Retherford for all of her hard work on the score book and also all of the uniform laundering during out of town tournaments! Mary Burrola for being there for us all and supporting your husband during the season. Little Mike Burrola (not so little anymore) for all his thankless work during games. At least you got a couple of ABs this year and even got a HIT! Finally THANKS to all the players. What a wonderful group of guys! Every single one of you were courteous polite and ALWAYS acted like young men while representing the Subia team with class! It was great to get to know all of you and I wish nothing but SUCCESS in the future in both your college baseball (and hopefully beyond!) your personal lives! KEEP IN TOUCH! All you have to do is read the previous guest book entry from Mr. Winter. A complete stranger who has the observational skills to see what this team was all about! Thanks fo allowing me to say as much as I have. I apologize that this message was so long winded. I still didn’t say it all! But this will do for now… Take care to all the Subia Baseball FAMILY! It truly was is and always will be a FAMILY! "

Comments:"Whew WOW!!! Where do I begin...First I would very much like to thank Tony and Ruby. Thank you both for all of your time care and generosity and for giving me the opportunity through Subia Baseball to continue to do what I love most. To Brian and Patty what else can I say that has not already been said except I (we) love you both very much and on behalf of the rest of the Burrola clan...A very heart-felt thank you. Thank you for everything especially your company and generosity. There are not many people who are willing to give as much and sacrifice as much as you both have over the last few years(must be in the upbringing). I am nay We are very grateful and honored to be you friends...Thank you both so much. Your the best! To my ballplayers thank you for all your hard work and time. With continued diligence and passion you efforts will be acknowledged. Always remember that this game owes you nothing! You must play this game with fervor precision and humility. Treat each day that your able to play with respect and dignity. If you do that the rewards will be greater than ever thought possible and you'll be repayed in ways you never even imagined more than any dollar amount could be assigned. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that as your coach and hopefully part of your baseball growth would be the high point in my baseball career but it WAS and IS. I love you all and may God bless everyone of in all of your baseball and life pursuits. To the parents thank you for having enough faith in Subia Baseball and its design to entrust your precious children with our beloved organization(especially with a couple of characters like Coach Dodd and me). Again thanks to all. Take care and please keep in touch! Coach B."

Comments:"An exhilarating ride thrilling everyone involved would be the best way I could describe the Subia team over the past few years. Thanks to the Coaches uncanny ability to seek the talent creating a recipe with all the right ingredients. Brian and Mike compliment one another in their differing styles yet with a common goal of creating champions. Thanks to the players (all of them over the years) who have built their own foundation which is not yet complete. Their abilities can only improve with precision and performance in mind now foresight appears clear and obtainable. The horizon holds much more which can be accomplished. Someone ultimately must be blamed for creating the ripple in the water which has now turned into a huge wave everyone is riding. My blame goes out in the form of thank you to Tony Subia for creating The Subia Tsunami. "

Comments:I just discovered your website. I write for arizonavarsity.com and studentsportsbaseball.com (national flagship of Rivals.com), and, of course, live in Phoenix. Despite my brother Jim and nephew Tim (QB Tampa Bay Bucs), baseball is my passion. Congratualations for your success with Subia. I didn't realize you won the Junior Olympic West, and began a journey that would lead to Farmington. I know Midland well, as I was the manager of their 15U team before I moved to Arizona in 1998. Connie Mack allows you to pick up 10 players from out-of-state, and Midland paid scouts scour the countryside during the year to bring in the best 10 (usually college sophomores to be). The founder and guru is Joe Hayden, and, yes, he has a stadium astride his corporate offices. The website tells the story. Their battles with East Cobb, GA. (the other top program in the country), are legendary. Of course, East Cobbs 12 million dollar complex and 30 plus World Series titles define committment. Your teams achievement at the Regional and World Series has my utmost admiration. When I heard about your first game draw, I figured it was men against boys. Your run through the Regional and World Series has to rank among the top performances in the 41 year history of the AABC. May the wind be always at your back!

Comments:What a nice website. I was googling around and found it. I actually played for Subia in 1983 with Dodd and the assistant coach. We took 3rd in the Western Regionals but should have won. Guess I made a mistake to not play for them my senior year although my high school team won state (Roberts train Air was our sponser) in American Legion. I did not play much for Subia but was very proud to be on their team. Keep an eye for my son Dalton England who is going to be a Senior at Gilbert High School and pitches. He was 9-1 last year and made 5A1 honorable mention for state and 2nd team all region.
