World Series Recap

Second In The World
Since no Arizona team had ever advanced from the West Region to the Connie Mack World Series, the “Subians” weren’t among the tournament favorites. But the field was stunned when they handily defeated the pre-tournament favorite, Midland Redskins of Cincinnati, Ohio, 12 – 4 in its opening game. Midland was a previous eight-time world series champion with a 2004 roster of “Who’s Who” baseball all-stars from multi-states.

With its deep team of power hitters, exceptional pitching depth and worldclass defense, the Midland Redskins stormed back through the loser’s bracket for a chance at revenge. They defeated Arizona twice in the tournament finals 8 – 6 and 10 – 8 to claim its ninth Connie Mack World’s Championship.

In spite of its barrage of offense, clean defense and long-ball power, Arizona came up two runs short in both championship games to capture the Second Place Trophy. Second in the world…not too bad for the scrappy bunch that became the first Arizona Connie Mack team to win the West Regional Championship.

With the earlier elimination of the Host Farmington Sky Sox, Arizona became the favorite of the local fans that seemed to admire the heart of the “new comers”. Although they fell a bit short of winning the gold, they represented Arizona well. With skill and class both on and off-the-field, the kids are indeed our champions.
