Second In The World
Since no Arizona team had ever advanced from the West Region
to the Connie Mack World Series, the “Subians” weren’t
among the tournament favorites. But the field was stunned when
they handily defeated the pre-tournament favorite, Midland Redskins
of Cincinnati, Ohio, 12 – 4 in its opening game. Midland
was a previous eight-time world series champion with a 2004
roster of “Who’s Who” baseball all-stars from
multi-states.
With the earlier elimination of the Host Farmington Sky Sox,
Arizona became the favorite of the local fans that seemed to
admire the heart of the “new comers”. Although they
fell a bit short of winning the gold, they represented Arizona
well. With skill and class both on and off-the-field, the kids
are indeed our champions.
